Did you know that 2124 homes are listed for sale in Union County as of 3/12/10 in the Carolina Multiple Listing service. These homes range in price from $22,000 to $4,4,499,000. Union County has a lot to offer. For those of us already living in Union County we know why we chose this county. If you are thinking about relocating to Union County or to a different town in the county, please feel free to ask questions.

Being a resident of Wesley Chapel, I can tell you that Wesley Chapel is a great place to live. Wesley Chapel still has a small town, rural feel but is an easy commute to Charlotte and shopping. With the new shopping centers located in Wesley Chapel, which include Target, Rack Room Shoes, Radio Shack, Loews and Harris Teeter, coffee shops, cleaners, pizza etc...it is not far to every convenience. There is even a Hickory Tavern opening. I think it will be like "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. The schools in Wesley Chapel and Weddington are wonderful here and the people around here are friendly. There are wonderful neighborhoods in Wesley Chapel offering housing in all different price ranges. Anyone else live in Wesley Chapel? What would you add?

Businesses expand in Charlotte - bringing new jobs

Siemens recently announced an expansion — its second in Charlotte in less than a year — that should bring more than 800 jobs and at least $170 million in local investment over five years. The new jobs would pay an average of $65,000 a year.

The Shaw Group, which also services the energy industry, has also recently expanded in Charlotte.

A nuclear division of Toshiba announced last year it would add nearly 200 jobs in the area.

Fluor Corp. and URS Corp. have also located or expanded their power-plant divisions in Charlotte. These moves should help Charlotte move forward and rebrand itself as an energy hub. This is great news for the Charlotte region.

AP courses at Charlotte, NC area high schools

I was recently asked which high schools have been identified in the Charlotte area as having AP courses. I responded as follows....

"Many of the area high schools offer AP classes. I have links on my website to Mecklenburg, Union and Cabarrus county schools. If you click on their links you can choose which high schools you are interested in and then visit their websites and their course selections. I am very familiar with the high schools in Western Union county and the South Charlotte area and would be happy to speak to you about them.

The Charlotte Housing Market sees its third consecutive quarterly increase in single-family home closings

Metrostudy, a provider of data to the real estate industry reported that the Charlotte market has seen its third consecutive quarterly increase in single-family home closings. According to Metrostudy "single-family closings in the fourth quarter totaled 1,939 units, 100 more than in the third quarter."

There is about a 4.4 month supply of unsold homes which is about the same as the third quarter.

Although 2010 will remain a challenge and is no where near the boom of the early 2000's, this is good news that Charlotte is beginning to see a positive change in the housing market.

Charlotte area realtor association awards $10,000 to 5 organizations

Through a grants program the housing foundation for the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association awarded $10,000 to five orgainizations that are helping to met unmet needs in the community. The five recipients as reported in the September 1, 2009 Charlotte Observer, were the Wesley Community Development Corporation which received $2500 to help with predevelopment costs for a house to be built for 3 mentally disable adults in Cornelius, the Latin American Coalition received $2500 for its foreclosure prevention workshops, the Urban Ministry received $2,000 for the agency's substance abuse education & recovery drug program. The money will be used for phone lines that clients use to secure stabilized housing and employment, the Salvation Army received $2,000 for its Center of Hope to buy bus passes for female residents who are seeking employment and housing and the Hope House received $1,000 to help builde a children's rec room at Hope House in Huntersville.

Pretty impressive from a group that obviously feels that everyone deserves a roof over their head.

Terminates cause billions of $'s in property damage a year in the US according to the National Pest Management Foundation. You usually don't notice them until the damage is already extensive. That is why it is important that prior to purchasing a house you have a pest inspection done by a licensed inspector.

Home owners can take some preventative measures such as keeping moisture away from their home's foundation, store mulch, firewood and wood chips away from the house, ventilate crawl spaces, eliminate gaps and cracks along roof eaves and window joints. Still the best defense is to schedule regular inspections with a termite specialist who can use special wood treatments and repellants to help prevent termites. The bottom line is don't let termites destroy your biggest investment...your home!
